The Busy Season

By George Tamayo, Creative Director, RACER Studio

It’s that time of year when the racing season winds down that RACER Studio inevitably ramps up with work we can’t quite talk about until the new season begins. In the meantime, we can look back on some pretty cool work that we did this year.

From custom content creation to video capture and advertising campaigns to event production for a variety of clients that ranged from auto makers to sanctioning bodies, we pulled off a dizzying array of work. It gave us the chance to work with both great clients as well as some very talented photographers, writers and designers. You can check much of the work out on our Portfolio page.

Last year’s transition from one race season to another included custom content to preview the seasons for the Verizon IndyCar Series. IMSA WeatherTech Championship and the Pirelli World Challenge.  As with every year we had to think creatively and strategically around the thorny issue of imagery and details to preview a season that hadn’t yet started.

Once the season did kick into gear, we flew to Daytona to capture video assets on behalf of Mazda Motorsports, which their agency used to put together a great video about the sprit of racing at Mazda.

We also completed a variety of ad campaigns for IMSA, the new United States F4 Championship and the SCCA that included creative work in print, digital and video.

In the custom content arena, we were busier than ever. In addition to the aforementioned previews there was a multi-installment content series for Verizon Wireless and Forgeline Wheels plus content for Mazda, the SCCA, and an awesome In Focus production for BMW that featured their M6 GTLM and the iconic 3.0 CSL that won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1975.

Longtime client Toyota kept us busy with a variety of projects. RACER Editor-In-Chief Laurence Foster did yeoman’s work as the creative force behind an entry in the The Great Race with a 1970 Toyota Corolla and even “moonlighted” as the navigator for the entry. To pull this one off, it was virtually “all hands on deck” by much of the RACER staff in a true spirit of, “all for one and one for all.” The whole adventure was chronicled in a multi-episode video that well worth watching. And, there’s more great Toyota work still to come.

So next year (or is it this year?) is already shaping up to be busy year. If there’s something we can collaborate with you on, drop me a line and let’s chat. george.tamayo@racer.com
